YOUTH Day had the 89 learners at a preschool in KwaNobuhle very excited as from now on they can enjoy viewing educational programmes at their school.
For the second consecutive year, Ayanda Gqamane and Mzikhulu Sidwell from MSM DStv Installations in KwaNobuhle, have decided to invest in the young in their community on Youth Day.
They did this through the installation of DStv OpenView HD, which offers a variety of educational programmes to children. The full and free installation was at Nonkqubela Pre- School, which opened its doors during 2001, thanks to VWSA Community Trust. The pre- school caters for children up to the age of 5 years.
Last year Khanya Pre-School was the recipient of the same kind of installation which is to the value of R1 100.
“We want to give back to our community which serves us so well. We know that the majority of eager tv watchers are children and they are part of the growing population of youths. The educational programmes offered by OpenView can just be of benefit to them,” said Gqamane.
According to Sidwell, it is important that the children get exposed to technology at an early age.
“Remember, many of the children here do not have access to these educational television programmes at home. So this was an ideal opportunity to help make a difference in their education. We wish to leave a legacy through our annual installation at educational institutions in our community,” said Sidwell.
Nontshamayelo Doris Sizani, principal at Nonkqubela Pre School said, “We wrote a letter to Ayanda and Mzikhula, requesting them please to consider sponsoring the installation as it is of great assistance to have access to educational programmes at the school.
“It will help us a lot. Through watching programmes like Popeye, the children listen and learn how to speak English. It is an added benefit. Sometimes they get tired of listening to teachers, but these educational programmes have a visual as well as auditory impact on them,” said Sizani.
Apart from the businessmen’s installation business both of them are known in the entertaining industry, Gqamane as a local artist, going by the name of Slice Palony whilst Sidwell is known as DJ Mayo.
They are also involved at LoveLife Centre in KwaNobuhle.
