WHAT happened to be a weekend job for Roland Petersen, soon emerged as a full-time business called Roland Electrical and Maintenance.
Whilst employed at Volkswagen of South Africa, working in the purchasing department, Petersen started to do part-time electrical installations and maintenance. Within a year that he commenced with his weekend job, it proved to be so successful that it became his full-time job at the beginning of 2018.
“Whilst at VWSA purchasing department, which actually looks at SMMEs and involves Raizcorp, it changed my mind in becoming an entrepreneur,” said Roland Petersen.
He joined Raizcorp business growth programme in Uitenhage during October 2018.
“Raizcorp has changed my life. Since I started on my own during January 2018 until September, I had to do things with the little experience I gained from a purchasing point of view.
“But Raizcorp taught me to look at the greater picture of business, especially how to handle the finances.
“Now, I know how to change my operational aspects to focus on the pipeline of sales and to approach marketing from different angles,” said Petersen.
“As an entrepreneur, doing everything on your own, you sometimes lack focussing on marketing. Raizcorp taught me techniques of how to handle marketing whilst working.
“It is not a massive thing, the answer is in doing little things right. I love that, now I can do what I like and like what I do,” said Petersen, whose wife Joy assists with the marketing.
He said what he values most from Raizcorp is that “they have told me failure is OK. Because from failure you learn and will succeed.”
Roland offers electrical installations, repairs to existing installations, issues Certificates of Compliance, does stove and geyser repairs and also minor construction (building).
“Time lying ahead, I see just more greater things to work towards with Raizcorp. It is a positive team and I like that. Thank you Raizcorp!” said Petersen.
