AN intelligence-driven operation was conducted last Friday and three suspects (ages between 20 and 40 years) were arrested for falsifying work/study permits as well as passports in the Addo and Kirkwood areas.
“All the equipment used to allegedly falsify these documents was confiscated.
Three cases of falsification of documents and fraud were registered and all the equipment (laptops, cellphones, printers, scanners and cameras) worth more than R30 000 were handed over to the SAPS Cyber Crime Unit to be analysed,” said police spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart.
The three suspects, Shegiru Inu (35), Heinrich Booysen (22) and Godfrey Chimutashu (29) appeared in the Kirkwood Magistrate’s Court and the matter was postponed until tomorrow. Inu and Chimutashu remained in custody and Booysen was released on bail.
The acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll has commended the team for their efforts and emphasized that team work plays a vital role in combatting crime effectively.
“Members from the South African Police Service will trace and arrest those involved in crime, because there is no place for criminals in our communities”.
