FOUR armed suspects last week on Wednesday morning entered the Sports Bar in Graaff-Reinet Road, threatened the manager and staff and took an undisclosed amount of cash from the business and fled in a white Volkswagen Polo.
The Uitenhage police were immediately notified and the description of the vehicle and registration were circulated by members of the Uitenhage 10111 Centre. The Port Elizabeth Flying Squad members responded swiftly and drove towards the direction of Motherwell (on the M17) in an attempt to close possible escape routes. Twenty minutes after the robbery they noticed the VW Polo that matched the description and a high speed chase ensued.
The chase continued towards Kwazakhele where the driver lost control over the vehicle and almost drove into a wall. Members from the Flying Squad managed to apprehend one male suspect (35-year-old) and a large sum of cash was also recovered. The search for the outstanding three suspects are continuing.
The possibility that the suspect might be linked to other business robberies in the Uitenhage/PE Clusters are under investigation.
The acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll commended the members for their swift response and vigilance in ensuring that they bring those culprits who break the law, to book.
