A two day sporting cummer camp, the first of its kind in Uitenhage, will be hosted at the end of November, in search of the town’s future sporting heroes.
The camp will be hosted by Zeal-Fit-Community (ZFC) school of excellence and it will be held at CW Hendricks Primary School. Various high schools in and around Uitenhage, such as Uitenhage High School, John Walton Secondary, McCarthy Comprehensive Secondary School, Gamble Street and Marymount have been invited to select 20 of their most promising athletes to attend the athlete development camp.
“We will be focussing on biomechanics control, transferring of motor skills, prevention of injury, nutrition and athlete management,” said Damian Zealand, a biokineticist and president of Zeal-Fit-Community.
“This is a first of its kind and unlike specific academies, the school of excellence focuses on the athlete (irrespective of the sporting code) and not on the sport.
“I believe that an athlete’s talent should be nurtured holistically to achieve greatness and success. All too often, talent in our previously disadvantaged communities goes lost in the system, because of lack of supporting structures, and more important, lack of knowledge from the athlete himself,” said Zealand.
Uitenhage is known for it’s sporting greats and ZFC want to become an in-house name in producing and developing young sporting heroes.
