Strelitzia guest speaker Luvuyo Ngxiki, affectionately known as “Vovo” grew up on the dusty streets of Kwazakhele township in Port Elizabeth.
Under the influence of his peers in what Crime Stats SA has deemed one of the top ten crime precincts in the Eastern Cape, Luvuyo, at age 13 became involved in a life of criminal activities. What had started as involvement under peer pressure, soon became a viable “career” option. By the age of 17 and now high school drop-out, he had been imprisoned four times. It was only after he had been sentenced to 11 years in prison at age 20 that he realised that a change needed to happen.
