Rapists sentenced for 7, 10 and 18 years behind bars

POLICE in the Uitenhage Cluster welcomed the sentencing by the Uitenhage Regional Court of rape accused Rafferty Rodwill (20).

He was sentenced to an effective 7 years imprisonment for raping a 44-year-old woman.

According to police information the accused offered to walk the victim home on a footpath next to Tarpon Crescent, Kamesh, at 00:05 on 2 July 2017. The accused then raped her. The victim reported the incident to the South African Police Service and the accused was arrested on 5 July 2017 on a charge of rape.

  • In two other separate rape cases handled by the Uitenhage Regional Court, Sputa Thandoxolo (38) was found guilty and sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for the rape of a 14-year-old girl on 25 April 2015.

According to testimony, the victim was sent by her grandmother to a shop in KwaNobuhle. On the way to the shop, the accused took the victim under false pretences to his house where he raped her whilst playing loud music.

The victim managed to free herself and report a case of rape at SAPS KwaNobuhle. The accused was arrested the same day 25 April 2015.

In a second rape case, Zweni Siyabulela (32) was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for the rape of the 18-year-old woman.

Acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll applauded the detectives from the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Uitenhage, as well as the Uitenhage Regional Court for the good work performed and the sentence that was handed down.
