ACTING Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll, welcomed the sentencing of rapist Lendre Helmie (35) that was handed down by the Uitenhage Magistrate’s Court.
According to testimony, Helmie was at a residence in Seagull Crescent, Rosedale, together with the 21-year-old male victim when he threatened the victim with a knife and raped him. The victim reported the incident to the South African Police Service in Kamesh and the accused was arrested. Helmie was found guilty on a charge of rape and sentenced effectively to eight years imprisonment.
