ALGOA FM’s focus on news, music, the youth and sport has paid dividends for the radio station as it has been recognised among the nominees for the 2019 Liberty Radio Awards.
Algoa FM news manager Shadley Nash and online news editor Doreen Loubser, have both been nominated as top news readers. A first for the station is a nomination in the category, sport show, where Daron Mann’s Saturday Wake Up has been nominated.
Although Mann is a multi-award-winning breakfast show presenter, this is the first time he has been recognised for a show focussed on his personal passion for sport.
Algoa FM managing director Alfie Jay says he is also delighted to see the station’s annual Youth Day Campaign, during which Grade 11 pupils get trained to run the station for a day, crack the nod for yet another nomination.
“Our youth day campaign is an excellent investment in the future and credit must go to programme manager, Baydu Adams, who together with the presenters and the entire team at the station, does some great work with the youngsters,” he says.
A previous two-time award winning music show, the Algoa FM Top 30 with Wayne Hart, brings to five the number of nominations received by the station.
