DR Val Moodley (aged 85) one of the pioneers of Family Medical Practitioners in Uitenhage passed away peacefully on Tuesday, 19 March 2019.
According to one of his colleagues, Dr Logan Naidoo who paid tribute to Dr Moodley and spoke of the huge contribution he had made in Uitenhage, the local medical fraternity as well as in Port Elizabeth was extremely saddened by this news.
Dr Moodley started as a general practitioner in Uitenhage during 1972, with his practice in Van Der Riet Street and later moved to the Sormesh Medical Centre in Durban Street.
“His kindness, compassion and wonderful caring manner made him highly respected by the community he served. He worked tirelessly every day and kept an exceptionally high standard of practice,” said Dr Naidoo.
Dr Moodley also was a generous contributor to community projects and had a strong relationship with the labour movement.
“He was an inspiring leader, mentor and always had wise counsel for his colleagues. He was a founding leader of UDIPA Managed Care which is still flourishing today.
“He was known for his impeccable bedside manner and his authentic charm with which he handled every patient and became affectionately known as ‘Tata Mkhulu’ by his patients and staff,” said Dr Naidoo.
Dr Moodley was a true doyen of medical practitioners in Uitenhage and will be sorely missed.
Dr Moodley is survived by his son Dhiroshan, daughter in law Venashree, daughters Chaminya and Bavanisha, son in law Preg Chetty and loving grandchildren Kimaya, Lemika, Sachiv, Chhail, Sidhara, Nadir and Shamir. -REPORTER
