A physique athlete from Kwa- Nobuhle has earned his Protea colours to represent South Africa in Bernidom, Spain, at the International Federation of Bodybuilding’s mens physique world championship.
Vuyolwethu Mkhencele told the UD Express that he was into fitness from a very young age and became fascinated with the sport.
“During 2017, soon after I started to compete in International Federation of Bodybuilding competitions, I was fortunate to be selected to participate in my first national show, but I did not make it to the 10,” said Mkhencele, who studied Mechanical Engineering at Nelson Mandela University and is an engineering graduate trainee at Volkswagen of South Africa.
“This year I was selected to represent Nelson Mandela Bay at the national bodybuilding show in Rustenburg and was fortunate to be victorious. I was selected to represent South Africa in Spain at the world championships and awarded my South African Protea colours,” said Mkhencele.
The IFBB world championship is being held from 6 to 12 November in Bernidom, Spain. Mkhencele is accompanied by a team of 11 athletes and 5 officials. He is the only athlete from the Eastern Province included in the team.
Mkhencele will compete in the Mens Physique Cup division for athletes up to 174cm.
