Nearly half million visited one-of-its-kind facility

PEOPLEPAVILION, the Uitenhage based multipurpose facility of Volkswagen Group South Africa, celebrated its 5th anniversary on 6 December.


PEOPLEPAVILION, the Uitenhage based multipurpose facility of Volkswagen Group South Africa, celebrated its 5th anniversary on 6 December.

Since officially opening its doors in 2013, PeoplePavilion has welcomed nearly half a million visitors who have attended various events such as sporting matches, exhibitions, conferences, birthdays and weddings.

At the end of November 2018, the facility recorded another landmark when it hosted over 100 000th visitor. The milestone surpassed the previous record of 93 012 visitors achieved in 2016.

The R30-million facility is one of its kind in the South African automotive industry and Volkswagen Group production network. PeoplePavilion is a sports, recreational, rehabilitation and community facility operating for the benefit of all Volkswagen Group South Africa employees and their families. The PeoplePavilion aims to create a sense of belonging and engagement for Volkswagen’s employees in Uitenhage.

PeoplePavilion boasts of a fully equipped gym with a qualified trainers and a full time bio kinetics practitioner, a multi-purpose hall that is able to service different indoor sporting codes and can host functions of up to 500 people, outdoor field for rugby, soccer, cricket and baseball.

“Our PeoplePavilion is multi-purpose facility where our employees and their loved-ones can work out to maintain good health and also socialise by participating in different sporting codes on offer,” said Thomas Schaefer, Chairman and Managing Director of Volkswagen Group South Africa.

“I am proud that many of our employees and people living in the Nelson Mandela Bay area have found good use of our facilities.”
