National baseball tournament held in Bay

THE 26th South African National Masters Baseball Tournament will be held at Londt Park from the 9th till the 13th October.


THE 26th South African National Masters Baseball Tournament will be held at Londt Park from the 9th till the 13th October.

Teams from 9 provinces will be competing in 3 divisions, namely Elite League, Vets division (over 45 years) and the Challenge Division.

“What is of interest in the Challenge Division, is that the Robson brothers, namely Lionel, Duwayne, Harry and Mornee, will all be participating, but will face each other playing for difference provinces,” said Terence Gouws from Eastern Cape Masters Baseball.

In the Elite section, cousins Denny Hayward and Nantie Hayward as well as Daniel Coetzer and Raymond Coetzer will be representing the Mandela Bay Team.

In the MBA Elite Division, Keith Grobler (SA Master) and Denny Transell, who will be participating in his 12th SA Masters Baseball Tournament, are extremely excited to let the games begin.

Baseball action starts on Tuesday, October 9th at 19:00 with a Baseball Reunion at Londt Park. All who were part of baseball in the past are invited to attend.

Players like Joggie Carlson, Pietie Carlson, Willie Gouws and Leon van der Nest will be some of the well-known players in attendance.

Clint Carlson will be flying all the way from the United Kingdom to attend the event whilst Morné Blignaut will travel from Ellisras. From 10 to 12 October, baseball games will be played on 3 fields at Stella Londt Park in Fernglen. Games start at 08:00.

A softball friendly match will to be played on October 12th at 17:30. It will be followed by a Softballers Reunion for all who played the game in the past.

On Saturday, October 13th, the finals of the Veterans, Challenge and Elites will be played after which the South African Masters squad will be announced at the prize giving.

The public are most welcome to attend the games and entrance will be free of charge.
