POLICE launched a manhunt for three men who allegedly broke into a Despatch home last week on Wednesday at around 02:00 and held the owner at gunpoint.

It is alleged that three men forced open a window and climbed into the house in Breë Street in Retief suburb.

“One of the suspects armed with a firearm, held a 56-year-old at gunpoint. A victim was further tied and kept in the bedroom while other suspects ransacked the house,” said police spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart.

Suspects stole cash from the wallet, a flat screen television, a video machine and two tablet phones before fleeing the scene.

“About an hour later, a victim managed to free himself and contacted the police. No person was injured during the incident,” said Captain Swart.

Police are urging homeowners to install burglar bars in all their house windows and doors so as to increase security measures.

This gives homeowners ample time to contact police or create diversion while intruders would be busy attempting to gain entry.

It is also advisable for homeowners to keep a record of all serialized items in a safe place.
