Man (29) arrested after fatally stabbing man (29) who accidentally threw stone at his nephew.

What began as a house party in Despatch ended in tragedy when a man (29) was fatally stabbed after accidentally hitting a toddler with a stone during an argument on Saturday morning, 4 October.

Shervago Hanse (29) was murdered following the incident, and another man (29) has been arrested by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in connection with his death.

According to a SAPS spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, it is alleged that the victim was fatally stabbed after he accidentally hit a two-year-old toddler with a stone following a heated argument.

Police records indicate that at approximately 04:00, the homeowner wanted her children’s friends to leave her premises following a binge drinking party at her house in Albatros Street, Reservoir Hills, Despatch.

Janse Van Rensburg added that it is alleged that as friends were vacating the premises, one of them started to argue with the homeowner’s daughter.

“He threw a stone, but missed and struck a toddler (2),” she said. “On seeing that his nephew was injured, the toddler’s uncle retaliated and stabbed Hanse, who later died in hospital.”

The uncle (29) was arrested and is due to appear in the Kariega Magistrate’s Court today, Monday, 6 October, on murder charges.
