MOTHER’S DAY is celebrated on Sunday, May 12th, to express regard, respect and love towards moms. It is a day which makes people remember the importance and significance of mothers in their life and is observed as a day to give a special emphasis to the motherly figures.

Here are some ideas how to celebrate a special mother:

SERVE BREAKFAST IN BED

More like brunch in bed. Let her sleep in, then enjoy flapjacks and snuggles.

TAKE A FAMILY BIKE RIDE

Get the whole crew up and moving. You can deck out mum’s bike with some pretty flowers, and pop baby in a bike trailer for a day of family fun.

PLAN A PICNIC

We’re sure any mum would love having some fun in the sun with her favourite food and her favourite people.

SEE A MOVIE

When’s the last time she got to watch something that was not a children’s show? Have someone else babysit and take mum to a movie for a few hours.

MAKE A DELICIOUS DINNER

If she’s always the person making the meals, give her a night off by making Mother’s Day dinner.

BOOK MANICURES/PEDICURES

Nothing says, “You’re the best” like a good foot scrub and a fresh coat of polish.

SET UP A SCAVENGER HUNT

This sweet scavenger hunt that uses heartfelt cards is the perfect way for the children to feel involved in celebrating Mother’s Day.

PLAN A DAY HIKE

Spend some time in the great outdoors and let mum get back in touch with nature. You could make it a family outing, or if you know she’s been itching to get back to some more challenging trails, you could hire a sitter for a few hours.

VISIT A PARK OR GARDEN

A stroll through a nearby park or garden is a gorgeous and thoughtful way to celebrate her on Mother’s Day. Or visit the close-by Addo Elephant National Park and enjoy a picnic at Jack’s Picnic Spot.

DO GARDENING TOGETHER

Kick-start a sweet Mother’s Day tradition by planting a few blooms in your home garden. Every time she sees them, she’ll be reminded of the special day — it’s the gift that keeps on giving! Some flowers that are fairly easy to maintain include sunflowers, marigolds and sweetpeas.

GO TO AN EXHIBITION OR GALLERY

If there’s a new exhibition she wants to check out, the whole family can make a day of it.

LET HER EXPLORE A PASSION PROJECT

Maybe she’s always wanted to try her hand at photography, or maybe she wants to learn how to make special cuisine. Whatever her interests are, there’s probably a class or workshop where she can explore a new passion or rekindle an old one.

HEAD TO YOGA

If mum can’t get enough “omm”, the whole family can join her for a yoga session. Many studios offer family classes that are designed for both parents and children.

EAT OUT

Spoil her by taking her for breakfast, lunch or dinner at a nice restaurant or place where she will feel special. Remember to book as there might be many families taking this easy option to spoil a mom!

TAKE HER TO THE BEACH

There are few things as refreshing as strolling on the beach. Take her to the beach and take a picnic blanket or towels with to enjoy the autumn sun. Human skin can make large amounts of vitamin D when exposed to the sun. – SUPPLIED
