FIVE young baseball players from Innes Primary in Uitenhage have been included in the Eastern Province team to represent the province at the South African Baseball Championships which will be held at Londt Park from 27 to 30 March.

The Innes players are Androcles Adams, Ethan Fraser, Juandrè Visagie, Ikombe Tyatya and Crispin Kelsey. Two players from Albertyn Primary, Jayce Chamberlain and Derano Potgieter have also been included in the EP team.

Eugene Transell, U/13A assistant cricket coach said that the baseball skills and practices conditioned the cricket players well, as the Innes U/13A cricket team is unbeaten thus far.

Innes Primary also has four baseball debutants in the U/12 Mandela Bay Baseball side.

According to Daniel Coetzer, MBA U/12 head coach, many former pupils from Innes Primary have played baseball for EP.

“Baseball at schools level is reaping the benefits since the sport was rolled out in schools last year November,” says Terrence Gouws from Mandela Bay Baseball.
