INTERNATIONAL Coastal Clean-Up Day is being held all over the world on Saturday. Thousands of tons of waste are removed in a single day by tens of thousands of volunteers globally.
Last year, around the Port Elizabeth coast line, more than 12 tons of the “Dirty Dozen” (12 most found items on beaches) were removed. This year WESSA will collect data on the “Dirty Dozen” to compare beaches. If anyone is interested in participating in the study contact Lorien Pichegru at 078 844 3863.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality and Plastics SA will provide bags for most of the clean-ups. A big thank you to them both.
Volunteers can be at the following beaches at 09:30: Colchester; Blue Water Bay; Hobie Beach; Cape Recife; Schoenies; Blue Horizon Bay; Maitlands Beach; New Brighton; Seaview as well as at the Motherwell storm water canal; Swartkops River (by kayak) and Baakens Valley.
