THE Express group of newspapers is this week launching a limited edition recipe book, Express ChefRecipe Collection, with a compilation of almost 200 family favourite recipes from our readers from across the Eastern Cape.

In addition, the recipe book is sold with a specially designed apron, which is sure to be a collector’s item as well.

“The best recipes are often those that have been passed on from generation to generation, or are the result of combining whatever you have in your pantry, when guests arrive unexpectedly. These are the types of family favourite recipes you will find in Express Chef,” said EP Media Regional Editor, Bettie Giliomee-Rossouw.

Port Elizabeth Express ran a very popular Delicious Decisions readers’ recipe competition about 10 years ago, in conjunction with Sunridge Super Spar. This left us with a treasure trove of recipes, many of which I still use in my kitchen today to the great delight of my family and friends,” said Giliomee-Rossouw.

The collection is divided into three sections, i.e. starters, soups, breads and salads, followed by main dishes and a section for desserts.

All these recipes are quick and simple to prepare with ingredients found in any grocery store.

“They are unashamedly simple, non-pretentious and affordable – hearty meals and decadent desserts that anyone can prepare and will enjoy,” she said.

The recipe collection, is very practically bound in a ringbinder, for ease of use when making your creations in the kitchen. There is also space to make notes, and since it is a ringbinder, you can add some of your own recipes to the book.

“It has always been a dream to bring out a recipe book with these recipes, and this has finally come to fruition with the publication of the Express Chef Recipe Collection,” said Giliomee-Rossouw.

This collection includes recipes from our readers from across the Eastern Cape.

Among them are recipes published in the Mid-Karoo Express newspaper.

These recipes are from readers in the Karoo towns of Cradock, Middelburg, Somerset East and surrounds – giving the collection a “plattelandse” twist.

Celebrating the citrus fruit which is farmed in large parts of Express country, citrus recipes from readers from across the Eastern Cape have also been included.

“Since most people are very proud of their creations in the kitchen, we included, where available, the names of the readers who shared their recipes with us. We have included some of my favourite recipes as well as those of Express staff members,” said Giliomee-Rossouw.
