Get ready for U’hage Human Race

THE first event of the Legacy Project races presented by Eastern Province Athletics in partnership with Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality will be held on Saturday, 16 March.

The Uitenhage Human Race, which includes a 30km Road Race, 10km and 5km Family Run/Walk, will start and finish in the Derek Ferreira Rugby Stadium in Rosedale, Uitenhage.

Ntombesintu Mfunzi, of Nedbank running club, will be defending her winning time of 2.00.03, as part of her training for the Hannover Marathon.

Michael Mbambani, of Eastern Province Athletics, announced that the 30km course has been certified by the International Amateur Athletics Federation and that the 10km route is a fast out and back course.

Race organisers, Sport Impact Events, confirmed that T-shirts will be given to the first 200 entries, and prize money and attendance only lucky draw prizes will be awarded at the 10:30 prize giving.

All finishers will receive a medal. Gold medals will be awarded to the top ten men and women, followed by 150 silver and bronze medals to all finishers within the cut-off time. Bronze medals will be awarded to all the 5km finishers.

The cost for the 30km run is R100, and R60 for the 10km, runners over 65 years in the 30km will pay only 50% of the race fee. The temporary licence, required for the 30km and 10km, is R40. The entry fee for the 5km is R25.

Registration and late entries will take place at the Derek Ferreira Rugby Stadium in Uitenhage from 16:30 to 19:00 on Friday, 15 March and from 05:00 on the morning of the race.
