THE 2018/2019 cricket season is in full swing and Gamrose Cricket Club again participates with two senior teams, a woman’s team and in the U/14 league.
Gamrose has done well during the 2017/2018 season by winning the T20 Mayoral Cup, Promotion League and they finished 2nd in the Promotion League.
“It took the club 23 years to win a major trophy and it was through difficult times,” said Kenneth Kohl, secretary and club administrator of Gamrose Cricket Club.
“Once again, we want to thank the players and management of the club for their dedication and hard work to get the club to this level.”
Although the players and management are fit to repeat their brilliant achievements of last season, they struggle with unfit sports facilities.
“We are currently experiencing difficulty with the playing facilities at the Rosedale Sports Field (Derrick Ferreira Stadium) and have corresponded with the officials at the municipality and at Eastern Province level,” said Kohl.
The management of the club is positive that the problems with regard to the lack of maintenance and dilapidated facilities will get proper attention.
“We are trying our best to keep cricket alive here in Uitenhage. Therefore we invite all cricketers who wish to join the club to do so.
“Thank you to the community, businesses and Eastern Province Cricket for their support,” said Kohl.
The club’s executive members for the 2018/2019 cricket season are: president – George Solomon; vice-president – Sammy Philander; chairman – Riaan Solomon; secretary & club administrator – Kenneth Kohl; promotion league manager – Mario Radien; promotion league captain – Riaan Vockerodt; vice-captain – Domonic Kilian.
