IN celebration of John Walton Secondary’s 45th year of existence, the school’s annual alumni weekend promises to be extra special this year.
The John Walton Alumni weekend will be held from 27 to 29 April and festivities will kick off with a 45th Anniversary Festival at the sports fields.
The day will commence with a 5km fun run/walk which will start and finish at the school. Entry for the fun run is R20 per adult and R10 per scholar.
On the programme there is a rugby clash between old foes John Walton and Uitenhage High, a kiddies arena, numerous food and other stalls and a potjiekos team competition that will see ex-learners from various class groups compete against one another. The competition is, however, open to any outside team who wishes to take part.
Festivalgoers will also be entertained by onstage performances by current and ex-pupils as well as popular local and national artists. The artist line-up includes Courtney Courus, Sippy, DJ Mano-Zay, Les, Lee-Ann and Buddy, Patrick and Shuling Lindoor and 2015 SA Idols finalist Loyiso Gijana.
The beauty pageants will cater for three different categories, 5 – 10 years, 11 – 15 years and 16 – 22 years. Entries are open to anyone who resides in Uitenhage or Despatch. Entry fees are R100 per person. Entry forms are available at John Walton Secondary School from Marilyn Prince. Alternatively interested candidates can also contact Ms. De Vos for entry forms at 083 487 1046. There are lots of prizes up for grabs.
The annual Alumni AGM will take place at 12:00 on Saturday, 28 April and a 45th Anniversary Gala evening will follow at 18:30 at the Uitenhage Town Hall on the same day.
Tickets for the gala evening are on sale at R200 per person. The weekend’s festivities will be closed off with a thanksgiving church service at 14:30 on Sunday 29 April at the URC Reformed Church Ebenezer in Palm Drive Gamble.
