Four teenagers aged between 18 and 19 were arrested by SAPS Kwazakele officers following a house robbery reported on Monday, 25 August 2025, in Kwazakele.
According to police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, preliminary reports state that at about 21:20, the complainant and his girlfriend parked their vehicle in front of a house in Prichard Street, France, Kwazakele.
She said while still seated in the vehicle, an unknown suspect banged on the passenger’s window with a firearm, forcing them to unlock the doors and demanding cell phones. “The complainant was assaulted, and they were forced into the house,” she added.
She noted that a total of approximately five suspects ransacked the house and took a 43-inch plasma TV and clothing. “The five suspects continued to the main house and forced the door open. The complainant used his licensed firearm and fired two shots to protect himself,” she reported.
“The suspects then dropped the TV and fled in different directions. However, two suspects were injured when the firearm was discharged and were arrested. Officers also confiscated a silver 9mm pistol from one of the suspects. Both suspects were taken to hospital for treatment,” she further reported.
After the incident, she said SAPS Kwazakele officers attended to the complaint and immediately followed up on information. They managed to arrest two more suspects in possession of cell phones that were taken during the robbery.
“The four suspects aged between 18 and 19 were arrested for house robbery, illegal possession of a firearm and possession of suspected stolen property. The suspects will appear in the New Brighton Magistrate’s Court during the week,” she concluded.
