The event, which will be held from 25 March to 3 April at the Boardwalk International Convention Centre, is accredited and recognized by the World Chess Federation.

The Grandmasters, which is by invitation only, features players from India, France and Belarus who will compete in a series of competitions.

The FIDE Open – open to all players – will take place from 28 to 31 March and the Development section – for primary school learners – will take place on 30 March.

“The Eastern Cape is home to many chess enthusiasts, many of whom have represented South Africa internationally,” says The Boardwalk’s General Manager, Mike van Vuuren.

“Seeing the players, especially the youth, coming through the ranks and becoming recognised is most inspiring and we look forward to seeing them all in action at the tournament.”

Chess players are called to register before March 25th (20:00) to compete in the 2019 Boardwalk Pearson Chess Open.
