RUGBY player and captain of the Eastern Province U/17 Sevens team, Litha Adam from Despatch, led his team in winning all their matches up to the final of the Interprovincial Sevens tournament which was held in Potchefstroom.
The unbeaten Eastern Province U/17 team unfortunately could not hold their nerve in a gripping Cup final against Free State and lost 38-21. Ironically, Free State went down in their opening pool match, whilst Eastern Province won all of their matches leading up to the final.
According to Adam, they gave the Free State team a good run, but the miscommunication of the Eastern Cape team was a stumbling block, costing them the inability to finish off the brilliant way they have played throughout the tournament.
“I believe being a good rugby player is when you realize that it is a 15 or 7 man game and the only way to win the game is through teamwork. Also to play at your fullest potential,” said Adam, who is a Grade 11 learner at Grey High School in Port Elizabeth.
His next goal is to work hard as he would like to represent Eastern Province at the 2019 Craven Week which most probably will be held at Grey College in Bloemfontein or the “rugby factory” as the school is often referred to.
Adam said his rugby hero whom he looks up to and admires is the Springbok rugby captain Siya Kolisi, also a former learner of Grey High School in Port Elizabeth.
“I enjoy rugby and to me it is to make my family proud by all means. And to never stop working hard and giving nothing but my utmost best,” said Adam.
