Effective sentencing for two car thieves

THOROUGH investigations by a team of dedicated detectives from the Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit in Uitenhage ensured that two men faced charges relating to the theft of motor vehicles in two separate courts and they were sentenced effectively.

Sakutu Thozamile (42) was sentenced by the Uitenhage Magistrate’s Court to 8 years imprisonment of which 3 years were suspended for 5 years.

Thozamile was arrested on 8 February 2018 following a car chase from Algoa Park towards Despatch. He was driving the stolen Fiat Uno and collided with a wall and was subsequently arrested on the scene.

Elton Beyers (29) was sentenced in the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court to 5 years imprisonment for the theft of a motor vehicle. Beyers stole a 1992 Toyota Corolla during February 2017 and he was arrested on 12 April 2017 in Joubertina and the vehicle was recovered.

The acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll welcomed the sentences and commended the VCIU team for their comprehensive work which led to the convictions and effective sentencing by the Uitenhage and Humansdorp Magistrate’s Courts.– REPORTER
