Three beauty queens have made the Eastern Cape proud at the recent Ms Hope International Pageant, and they’re all from Kariega and Gqeberha.

Jennalee Hendricks, from Gqeberha, was crowned Ms Hope International second runner up, while Anricke Pyne, from Rocklands, was crowned Miss Pre-Teen Hope International first runner up, and Lecolé Tee, from Kariega, was crowned Miss Hope International first runner up.

Tee has also been chosen to be the Eastern Cape Director for the pageant. She will be responsible for choosing representatives from the Eastern Cape to represent South Africa at this year’s Ms Hope International pageant, as well as assisting possible finalists with their community-based projects.

The pageant took place over a period of one week, where finalists were judged on various things such as their interviews, impact of community projects and presentations. Models did an opening act dance, country outfit as well as evening wear. This gave them a score out of 30 and the 70% was based on their preliminary performance.

“It was an exciting atmosphere at the V&A Waterfront and finalists from all over the world looked extremely beautiful especially in their country wear. Over 30 countries took part in this extraordinary pageant, with Japan walking away with first place in two of the categories,” Tee said.

When her name was called, Hendricks was extremely ecstatic with her achievement, “knowing I not only made our country proud, but my home town Gqeberha too, really warmed my heart,” she said.

Pyne said she was in great anticipation as she waited while they announced the winners in her category. “I felt extremely proud of myself because I worked really hard, and I cannot wait to continue giving back to my community during my reign as first princess,” she said.

Lecole says she is very excited to be granted the opportunity to manage the Eastern Cape Representatives. This does not only leave her the responsibility of choosing the 2024 finalists, but also assisting them in getting themselves ready for the International pageant taking place from November 26 to November 30, 2024.

Tee concluded,

Some of my plans include more outreach programmes with finalists focusing on children’s homes, old aged homes and more. I also plan on hosting workshops to better prepare finalists for their interviews, how to communicate with possible sponsors and establishing community projects.

Applications officially opened on Monday, January 15, 2024. Anyone who is interested in entering, sponsoring or assisting can contact Lecole on 072 345 8422 or send an email to lecoleteez@gmail.com

For further details, an information evening will be held on Monday, January 29, at 18:00, at the St Katherine’s Hall in Market Street.
