There are only two weeks to go until Despatch Athletics Club gears up to make their ballsiest move yet at the 2025 Hollard Daredevil Run, in support of prostate and testicular cancer awareness. On 31 October, the club’s members will be lacing up for a cause and running in nothing but a purple Speedo. Every step taken helps fund screening, awareness, and research, especially for those who don’t have access to these.

“The Hollard Daredevil Run has been transformative for CANSA, providing vital funding that allows us to educate communities, offer free PSA screenings, and support men through early detection and treatment. It enables us to reach underserved areas, train healthcare professionals, and ensure men receive the care they need, from initial testing to hospital referrals and ongoing support. This support truly saves lives and helps change the face of prostate cancer in South Africa,” said Lorraine Govender, CANSA National Manager: Health Programmes.

The annual Hollard Daredevil Run, now in its sixteenth year, will see Despatch Athletics Club members joining other daredevils across the country. The club will be hosting their run at 15:00, with Hobie Beach as one of the potential gathering spots for participants who want to join the local effort.

This event fosters an environment where men feel encouraged to discuss their health openly and take proactive steps, which is crucial since early detection of prostate and testicular cancer can save lives.

Chief Marketing Officer at Hollard, Hazel Chimhandamba, “It’s so important to normalise conversations around male cancers. Women also play a critical role in encouraging their loved ones to take action. The Hollard Daredevil Run extends beyond corporates to schools, because these conversations need to start early. Girls often have support through health programmes, but for boys, we must ensure open discussions about male health and cancers.”

Tickets cost R180, and if you sign up before 27 October at TicketPro, your registration pack and complimentary purple Speedo will be couriered directly to you. Alternatively, those wanting to join Despatch Athletics Club can register with the club before 14:30 on Friday, 31 October. Follow Daredevil Run on Facebook to connect with the club’s efforts, or contact Despatch Athletics Club directly to join their group. You can also help reach this year’s Hollard Daredevil Run fundraising goal of R2 million by asking your friends, family, and colleagues to donate at BackaBuddy.

“The Hollard Daredevil Run makes a real difference every year. Firstly, the funding it raises allows us to provide more screenings, giving men the vital chance for early detection; something many might otherwise miss,” said Andrew Oberholzer, CEO of the Prostate Cancer Foundation. “Beyond that, the run creates incredible education and awareness opportunities. It gives us a platform to start important conversations on a massive media scale, and for that, we are truly grateful.”
