You might know him as Avukile Makwethu on kykNET’s Arendsvlei, but Despatch actor, Aviwe Ngabom has recently added another exciting character to his list.
Just last year on his birthday in April, Ngabom posted on his social media that his birthday prayer is to work for leading South African production company, Yellowbone Entertainment. A few weeks later, his prayer was answered and the young actor landed the role of Zidane Tshotsha in the company’s latest film, The Queenstown Kings.
“Khayamnandi, Despatch, Port Elizabeth, and the entire Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, rejoice! Your son is proudly representing you on an international platform – Netflix! I am overjoyed to share that I’ll be part of this incredible project alongside A-list actors. Remember, your gift will make room for you, propelling you in front of greatness. Let the excitement soar!” the excited actor wrote on social media.

The film, set in Komani, is directed by the lauded Jahmil X.T. Qubeka and produced by Layla Swart. It invites viewers into the heartfelt journey of Fezile Gigaba, played by Likhona Mgali, a 16-year-old football prodigy whose aspirations reach for the stars. The movie delves into themes of family, community, and the transformative power of sports, resonating deeply with its audience.
Speaking at the movie premier recently held at the renowned Boardwalk, Nu Metro in Gqeberha, Ngabom said, “Working with Jahmil is every actor’s dream, his brilliance speaks for itself. I’ve always wanted to be part of his production, so to say this is a dream come true is an understatement. Getting that phone call from an agent telling me I was selected to be part of the film was amazing.”
Another highlight for the young father of one gorgeous baby girl was acting alongside the legendary Zolisa Xaluva. Ngabom described Xaluva as a hardworking, dedicated, and disciplined creative.
“Shooting the film was tough. I had to constantly fly between Cape Town and Komani because I was also still shooting the Afrikaans telenovela. So, I’d go there, praat and praat, and then come back here and thetha,” he laughed. “I missed out on a few fun times with my fellow cast members, but I’m so grateful to have worked with such an amazing pool of talent, and I can’t wait for people to see this phenomenal film,” he excitedly concluded.
The film, The Queenstown Kings. will be available to watch on Netflix, this Friday, November 17.
