The fourth edition of the Concept Crew Car Club car show will be held tomorrow, 30 August at Daniel Pienaar Technical High School (THS), as the school celebrates 130 years since it was founded.

According to Concept Crew President Pierre Janse Van Rensburg, the purpose of this year’s car show is firstly to celebrate 130 years with Daniel Pienaar THS, and secondly to bring together the community, particularly car enthusiasts and businesses.
“Four years ago when we started this car show, our main objective was to bring the community together. That has always been our goal. From last year’s event, we saw community upliftment and a boost in the automotive environment in the Eastern Cape. That event was also held at Daniel Pienaar.”
“Retail Motor Industry Organisation (RMI) and MIWA are some of the main sponsors of the car show. They organised for people from the automotive industry to be here to support the car show, providing us with about 43 stalls for these individuals who will be present on the day,” he said. “There is a wide variety in that regard, from workshops to parts, spares, etc.”
Janse Van Rensburg added that RMI representatives will be present on the day to conduct aptitude tests for the attendees, which will be done free of charge. “A standard aptitude test probably costs around R1,000, but as they often support Daniel Pienaar, they will be conducting the tests for free. Anyone that comes can do an aptitude test with them. Additionally, doing this test will put you on the automotive database, which is used by motor companies to find people to work for them.”
Shedding light on why the show will be taking place at Daniel Pienaar, he said, “Most of our club members are former learners of the school. We hosted the car show in Despatch, but the main reason for the venue change is that we have outgrown the Despatch venue in terms of size. The logical choice for us was Daniel Pienaar because they are the only school in the Nelson Mandela Bay region that offers motorsport as a subject, and it also allows us to celebrate 130 years with them.”
Speaking to UD Express, Daniel Pienaar deputy principal Nokkie Strydom shared why having the car show at the school is so significant: “As we are celebrating 130 years, a lot of our learners will also assist with the manpower, specifically with arrangements for the show.”
He added that they are thrilled that the learners will be involved in this show. “Through the guidance of Concept Crew, our learners will now have experience working at car shows. They will also be involved in parking cars on site, working at the gate, and serving as officials on the day, which is great.”
Concept Crew Chairperson Freddie Olivier said that this event will provide learners with a platform to learn about what is needed to organise a car show, from the collection of vehicles, setting up, delegating, working as a unit and running a car show, which is an essential skill to have.
The SPCA will also have a stall at the car show. According to their chairperson, Deirdre Swift, “This will be a great way for us to firstly be visible in the community we serve and also create awareness through education. We will be informing the community of our roles and responsibilities as an animal welfare organisation in the community, and educate the community about animal bylaws.”
She added, “Sometimes there is a lot of confusion as to where the responsibility lies for certain things, like stray collection and reporting of dead animals on the side of the road. That is why we want to provide this education and be visible in the community.”
The show runs from 09:00 – 14:00 and the entrance fee is R50 per adult and R30 per learner.
