CRIMINAL activities are part of society and therefore the Uitenhage Community Policing Forum has come up with an idea for residents to try crime prevention methods which have been listed in monthly order.

“There is so much crime all around us, creating aggression where there was none before. We must change mindsets to prevent crime and not increase it,” said Pat Unsworth, chairperson of the Uitenhage Community Policing Forum.

“Our lives nowadays are so demanding and we cannot afford to waste a single moment. We have put together a few ideas that might help get our communities on the same page where it comes to crime prevention. After all practice is progress.

“We wish all in our community a happy, healthy and safer 2019,” said Unsworth.

The monthly crime prevention planner is as follows:

January: Jack up home security

February: Fence your properties

March: Mark your house with clear numbers

April: Ask neighbours for contact and emergency numbers

May: Make sure all doors and windows are closed

June: Join the CPF

July: Join patrollers to keep your area safe

August: Ask police for help (041 996 3434)

September: Scout surroundings for suspicious persons or activities

October: Offer help when you see someone in a crisis

November: Never leave young children home alone

December: Do not leave any valuable items in your vehicle.
