Cradock rally makes Uitenhage Lions serve community

WITHOUT the tremendous support from the large biker fraternity attending the annual Uitenhage Lions Club rally in Cradock, the Lions would not have been able to provide the community uplifting services they do.

The Club celebrated its 25th Lion Rally in Cradock which was described as one of the best held since inception.

“The Lion Rally is the major fundraiser of the Uitenhage Lions Club with all funds raised used to assist the local community focusing on vision, youth, diabetes, hunger, environment and childhood cancer,” said Wayne Kilian, president of the Uitenhage Lions Club.

“For this we are grateful for the support of both the community and specifically local businesses and the biker and motorcycle clubs. It would be impossible to live the Lions logo of ‘We Serve’ without their support.”

George Cox from Prophecy Riders suggested, made and presented 25 attendance Lions Rally shields, to four of the bikers who have never missed a Lion Rally.

“The shield was for ‘Riding with the pride of the Eastern Cape’,” said Lion Rally convener Bokkie Oberholzer.

These bikers who have never missed a Lion Rally are Clinton Saddler (aka Teach), Deon van Niekerk, Boetie Bam and Anthony Clarke (aka Tiny).

“Over the past few years the rally was disrupted by non-supply of both electricity and water from the local municipality in Cradock. This year the effect of load shedding aggravated the situation but we were prepared by hiring a generator that ensured limited disruption when the lights went out,” said Oberholzer.

According to him, feedback provided confirmed a decrease in attendance.

“But both social media and bikers in attendance verified that the 25th Lion Rally far exceeded expectations. This includes addressing the shortcomings of the past three years,” said Oberholzer.
