Barefoot in solidarity with the shoeless

EVERY day, thousands of children in South Africa walk barefoot to attend school.

In solidarity with these many boys and girls who have to face all the elements, most of the 285 learners, the principal as well as all staff members from Uitenhage Convent Primary, last Friday attended school barefoot.

“This is a first for the school and also the inaugural Leave Your Print initiative in support of under- resourced schools in the Catholic network,” said Uitenhage Convent Primary principal John Dennis.

He also walked barefoot for the duration of the school day.

Each child who participated in the Leave Your Print barefoot day was invited to make a R5 donation.

The Catholic Board of Education will use these donations to establish a fund that will address needs of the most vulnerable schools, especially by donating shoes.
