THE Mandela Metro School of Arts has been invited by the North-Norway branch of the Norwegian Band Federation and The Arctic University of Norway, to participate in parades and concerts to be held in the city of Tromso.

According to Christina Solheim Karstad, Manager of the Norges Musikkorps Forbund, the month of May is the beginning of spring and this is a special time of the year in Tromso.

“This is the time to enjoy our polar light all night and Norway celebrates its constitution day on May 17th. Bands play an important role in the celebrations,” said Solheim Karstad.

For the Mandela Metro School of Arts to make this trip to Norway a reality they have to raise funds. In doing so they will present a Traditional African Concert in the Uitenhage Indoor Sports Centre on Sunday, April 29th at 18:00. Several local schools will feature during the music concert.

The participating schools include Uitenhage High, Molly Blackburn, Dalrose Primary as well as Helenvale Brass Band and Normoyle Primary School.

  • The entry fee is R50 per person and the dress code and theme is traditional wear.
